Getting Ready for RWA National in Orlando

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

It’s a big time of year for romance writers. Many of us are getting ready to head to Romance Writers of America’s annual conference in Orlando next week. The main topic of conversation in my circle of writing friends is what to pack and how to fit it all into a suitcase or two. I’m already panicking. Conference wear, resort wear, evening wear, and shoes and accessories to match–where does it all end? How will I cram it all in?

My husband, silly man, thinks I should be able to get by with two pair of shoes–pack one and wear one on the plane. He thinks that if I color coordinate my entire week’s clothes that something, like say a single pair of black shoes, should suffice. That and a pair of flip-flops for the pool and I’m done. He doesn’t seem to grasp that I need evening shoes, daytime shoes, different styles of shoes…

Romance Authors on Romance

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I’m giving away a copy of Spy Games today on the BookEnds blog. Fellow BookEnds client Christie Craig and her nonfiction writing partner Faye Huges are celebrating the release of their new book Wild, Wicked & Wanton: 101 Ways to Love Like You’re in a Romance Novel. In the book they talk about lessons a real woman can learn about men and relationships from reading romance novels. Cool, huh? f you’re interested in what romance authors think their books can teach about romance, please stop by and comment for a chance to win a book by one of seven BookEnds clients.

Public Library Association Signing

The RWA Booth at PLA

The RWA Booth at PLA

Yesterday I had the great pleasure to sign and give away books in the Romance Writers of America booth at the Public Library Association conference in Portland, OR. I mean, for an author, what’s more fun than talking about books with people who absolutely love them? The librarians seemed upbeat, especially considering how much funding has been cut at many libraries around the US. They were very happy to get signed copies and many planned to donate them to their library’s collection. The attitude toward romance was encouragingly positive. I heard time and again how popular romance is with library patrons.

Isn’t the RWA booth gorgeous? I’d love to be sitting outside on a bench reading a book right now myself!
